Westermo to help attract future talent to rail industry

Opening ceremony at Get Up to Speed with STEM 2018.

Westermo is supporting the Rail Human Library initiative aimed at inspiring young people to consider a career in the rail industry. The first Rail Human Library, which will showcase the huge variety of careers available within the rail sector, takes place within the Rail Zone of Get Up to Speed with STEM. Over 4000 students will attend the 10th annual STEM event at the Magna science Centre in Rotherham on the 25th March 2020.

The Rail Human Library will provide a ‘speed-dating’ style opportunity to engage with rail sector workers from a cross-section of the industry. Conceived by Rail Safety Week and supported by North Rail Industrial Leaders, the Rail Human Library aims to attract future talent to the industry, regardless of their gender, backgrounds or education. Westermo will be joined by representatives from over 50 companies including Network Rail, Thales and Telent, providing advice and demonstrating the broad range of opportunities within the industry.

“Rail is a key industry for Westermo and we are keen to help attract talented and enthusiastic young people to continue to drive advancement in the rail network,” explained Phil Mounter. “State-of-the-art data communications solutions from Westermo play a vital role in the digitalisation of the railway and we hope by explaining how these are being used to bring services such as onboard Wifi, we will demonstrate the progressive nature of the industry.”
