Outstanding ring performance

Did you know that Westermo can offer extremely fast ring recovery, even in serial communication networks?

Serial communication is commonly used for simple and straightforward communications in point to point, or in rare cases, multi-drop topologies. These simple use cases allows for rapid response timings and deterministic protocols. If extra network reliability is required, it is possible to build the network in a ring topology, but that will require very fast fail-over in order not to disturb the communication causing unnecessary down time.

This can be solved by using the Westermo ODW fiber converters which have been designed for creating ring network topologies with the extremely fast fail-over of less than 1 ms! This is so quick that in case of a network problem, connected equipment and devices would not even realize the recovery and continue to work seamlessly. The low latency introduced by the ODW converter also makes it possible to build exceptionally large rings of over 100 units. There is also a galvanically isolated alarm relay fitted on each ODW which can be used to monitor the ring status giving an instant indication of a network problem and exactly where the problem is located.
